Maintenance Tips

Refrigerator

If your refrigerator isn't cooling properly, check the condenser coils located behind or under the refrigerator. Make sure the refrigerator is several inches from the back wall and that there is space on top so nothing can block the heat from coming off the coils. Water filters on refrigerators need to be replaced every six months to a year.

Washing Machine

Never overload or pack the clothes in too tight. If your washing machine won't spin or agitate, make sure that the timer or touch pad is set properly. Make sure the hot and cold water valves are open.

Dryer

If your clothes are taking too long to dry, make sure the dryer is not pushed back against the rear exhaust duct causing an airflow restriction. You should have your vent cleaned at least once a year. Approximately 16,000 house fires related to dryer vents being clogged occur every year in America.

Stove/Oven

If your oven isn’t heating, make sure the controls are set properly. See if the oven selector switch is set correctly and that the temperature switch is set to the desired temperature. Where applicable, make sure the oven timer is set to manual. If you smell gas, shut the gas valve off that is located behind your stove and call for help immediately. Air out the room as soon as possible.

Dishwasher

It is common for a dishwasher's drain hose or the air gap (if the unit has one) to clog. Drain hose clogs commonly occur when too many food particles are put in with the dishes. Run the hot water in your kitchen sink until the water gets hot before filling up the dishwasher to clear the cold water out of the water lines. Some washing issues may also be the result of hard water deposits. Hard water can be checked and cleaned if necessary.
